Earlier this month, a ruling was passed by the Rayong Administrative Court to turn Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate and its environs into a pollution-control area, requiring stricter enforcement of environmental measures and toxic-control solutions. In a bid to keep in step with new environmental rules at Map Ta Phut, PTT could have to modify its plan to construct a seventh natural-gas separation plant and a related petrochemical project in the area. Estimated to be built at a combined investment outlay of Bt100 bln, the project could face cancellation if the revised costs prove to be too high. The management would submit the report of its assessment of the possible impact of the as-yet-undefined new rules for consideration by the board on Friday.
