Merquinsa, DuPont collaborate on renewably-sourced TPUs

24-Jun-09
Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) specialty producer Merquinsa announced at NPE2009, the launch of a new family of Pearlthane® ECO TPU grades made with DuPont™ Cerenol® renewably-sourced polyol in a strategic collaboration between the two companies. The new family of TPU grades will complement Merquinsa's existing Pearlthane® ECO polyester and polyether ranges based on renewable sources designed for a wide range of footwear, sport & leisure, electronics and automotive applications among others. Pearlthane® ECO is Merquinsa's recyclable- and renewable-sourced specialty TPU elastomer range that recently received the Frost & Sullivan 2008 Global TPU Product Innovation Green Excellence of the Year Award. DuPont™ Cerenol® polyols are ideal soft segments for thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers. They are said to offer high performance with the added benefit of being environmentally responsible using ingredients made with renewable resources instead of petrochemicals.
