New metallized barrier and sealant films for a range of flexible packaging applications is being introduced by Jindal Films Europe, a global leader in the development and manufacture of specialty oriented polypropylene (OPP) films at Fachpack. The range of innovative film technologies for horizontal form fill seal (HFFS) packaging applications will be introduced: Metallyte™ MM398 for use in laminations and Metallyte™ MM688 and MM648 for use as an unsupported monoweb.
Metallyte™ 15 and 20MM398 films use a new heat sealant technology platform with improved heat seal performance when laminated to thin OPP or PET outer webs. Metallyte™ MM398 offers an excellent moisture barrier and much improved seal integrity compared to standard metallized OPP film alternatives. It provides brand owners with an opportunity to improve shelf life by reducing pack leak rates in various HFFS segments, such as biscuit & bakery, sweet confectionery and home & personal care.
Metallyte™ 30MM688 and 40MM648 films are new metallized, surface printable monoweb OPP film solutions with a broad sealing range and wide operating window for demanding high and variable speed HFFS applications. Both films feature a very low temperature seal (VLTS) coating on one side and a printable, over-coated metallized surface on the reverse side. They provide consistent machinability and good print surface, while maintaining barriers to keep products feeling, tasting and smelling fresh. These new metallized films - clear MM688 and white MM648 - provide manufacturers with opportunities to replace laminated structures and reduce packaging weight without sacrificing protection.
Metallyte™ 28 MH 388-ES, a multi-layer, cavitated, white metallized OPP film with an enhanced heat sealable layer which provides very high seal strength is also being introduced.
This new high barrier metallized film has an excellent moisture and gas barrier for use in laminations with paper, PET or OPP outer webs. It has been designed specifically to replace barriers, such as aluminum foil or a metallized film, and sealant webs to simplify packaging structures for flat pouches or sachets (2-ply to 3-ply). MH388-ES provides excellent performance on high speed HFFS machines and can be used in VFFS applications because it can lap seal to conventional coextruded OPP sealable films.
