Monkey invasion causes security scare IPCL naphtha complex at Vadodara

10-Nov-08
Faced with the menace of invasion by 250-300 monkeys at IPCL's 1,263 acre petrochemicals complex at Vadodara, Reliance Industries has been forced to beckon professional monkey catchers from Mumbai. The monkeys have literally taken over the pipelines and other structures of the IPCL complex that houses a naphtha cracker and 15 downstream plants. As the complex deals in some highly sensitive and explosive petrochemical products like acrylonitrile and benzene, the situation could be a safety hazard. The wooded greens at the vast estate provide the ideal habitat for these monkeys and they have a tendency to encroach into areas inhabited by human beings.
