New environment-friendly heat stabilizing modifier to allow PLA to endure high temperatures

11-Sep-08
Furthering its sustainable packaging solutions, DuPont has come out with an environment-friendly heat stabilizing modifier, Biomax® Thermal 300 which enhances polylactic acid (PLA) thermoformed packaging to withstand elevated temperatures during transportation, storage and consumption. The new heat stabilizing modifier is second to Biomax® Strong launched in 2007 and is a part of the company's Biomax® packaging offerings. Biomax® Thermal contains 50% renewably sourced content by weight and will be rolled out in the United States currently followed by Europe and Asia Pacific in early 2009. As per a company executive, new heat stabilizing modifier offers combination of high performance and environment-friendliness and will thus, provide a boost to incorporation of PLA in packaging applications. Company's other sustainable packaging offerings include Biomax® PTT resins and Biomax® TPS resins, DuPont™ Surlyn® resins (weight reduction), Cyrel® FAST flexographic printing plates (solvent free).
