VTC TPE Group, a global leader in the manufacture of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) has unveiled further developments to its growing Mediprene® compound range for medical device applications. The new Mediprene® A2 series are medical grade TPEs that bond well to transparent engineering plastics like ABS and polycarbonate complementing group's existing medical grade offering, which provides excellent adhesion to polyolefins like polyethylene and polypropylene. Potential applications for the new series include; seals, membranes, closures, friction grips. Mediprene® A2 thermoplastic elastomers are available in hardnesses ranging from 35 to 65 Shore A, exhibit flexibility over a broad temperature range and can be extruded or injection moulded. Overmoulding is a powerful technique that allows the production of finished parts in soft and hard material combinations without trimming or assembly. The company claims that their Mediprene® grades are sterilizable with gamma, EtO and steam and are strong alternatives as replacement for PVC; they are completely synthetic and latex free thereby minimising allergy risks.
