Growing application of plastics in food packaging sector is fuelling various new grade developments. Ten new SURPASS PE grades are to be introduced. The new technology will make PE tougher, stronger and more transparent for both rigid and flexible applications. The resins can be used in single-layer, multi-layer or laminate packaging. SURPASS is characterized by low taste and odour, combined with clarity, toughness and processability, making it a very high-quality food packaging material. It can be applied to a range of food products including liquid packaging, meat and fish packaging, frozen food packaging and fresh produce.
SURPASS is the brand name that describes PE products made with NOVA Chemical's Advanced SCLAIRTECH process technology. Since the launch of the Advanced SCLAIRTECH technology in 2001, strong market acceptance to SURPASS sales has seen a 50% increase in plant capacity. One of the company's key and growing markets is food packaging. Nova's Joffre, Alberta, PE plant in Canada currently produces 385,000 tpa, but can be expanded to produce 455,000 tpa.
