News of a weekend fire that caused the shutdown of a U.S. refinery and the kidnapping of three Eastern European oil workers in Nigeria's troubled southern region have not majorly affected oil prices as they held steady on Tuesday. Light, sweet crude for March delivery rose by 2 cents to US$58.55 a barrel in midmorning Asian electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Floor trading on the Nymex was closed Monday for the Presidents' Day holiday in the United States, but electronic trading continued. There was no price settlement Monday.
