Oil prices spiked past US$64 a barrel Wednesday- rising to a 6 month high level, amid rising tensions between Iran and the West and as inventories declined in the U.S. Light, sweet crude for May delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose by US$1.15 to settle at US$64.08 a barrel. This is the highest closing price as Sept. 11, 2006, but still below last year's record highs which topped US$78 a barrel in July. Brent crude for May delivery rose US$1.18 to settle at US$65.78 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange in London.
