The union minister for petroleum, natural gas and panchayat raj Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar has finally given his approval for the Rs 25,000-crore ONGC petrochemicals complex and LNG terminal project at Mangalore.
A recap shows that at the onset, the minister was not in favour of the project being housed in the state of Karnataka. After various efforts from the state, the project got the nod of approval from the PMO's for setting up of the project in Mangalore. However, the minister did not give the required permission. This move was criticized by many in the state, who appealed to the prime minister to look into the matter. The matter was also brought for discussion during the recently concluded session of the parliament.
