PEKK to produce injection-moulded components for high-temperature engineering applications

06-Jul-09
Polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) granules that provide significant advantages when used to produce injection-moulded components for high-temperature engineering applications is being offered by Goodfellow. PEKK has a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 162°C (semi-crystalline grade) and is able to maintain a high degree of chemical resistance as well as its physical properties up to its Tg. In addition, PEKK has an extremely slow rate of crystallisation, leading to improved flow characteristics, lower moulded-in stresses and greater dimensional stability. This slow rate of crystallisation also makes it possible for amorphous films of PEKK to remain transparent even at higher operating temperatures, when materials like polyetheretherketone (PEEK) will have crystallised and become opaque. PEKK is available as film, sheet and rod – forms that are used in applications that include flexible PCBs and items used in aerospace and radiation environments.
