Peru to draw master plan to encourage decentralization of petrochem industry

10-Jan-07
Peru's state hydrocarbons promotions agency - Perupetro is to commence work on a master plan to encourage the industry's decentralization, especially in areas away from Lima. This step will advance the development of the domestic petrochemicals sector. Studies are needed to determine which areas would be best for petrochemicals and to define corporate needs to establish operations in those areas. The studies also would need to find out what type of infrastructure is needed, such as pipelines. To improve the economic conditions in the country, the petrochemicals sector can help create very large decentralized industries, particularly in areas away from Lima. Initiatives by the state have become necessary, because if decisions are left only to businesspeople, it is likely that only areas close to Lima will be developed due to availability of superior infrastructure and economic development in and around the capital. Only Governmental plans to create incentives will help establish businesses in other parts of the country.
