Petrochem manufacturers in Japan to switch from ethylene to propylene

15-Feb-05
Higher production increases by China and Middle Eastern countries has led to steep competition in the ethylene market. Many petrochemical producers in Japan are now switching from ethylene to propylene because of this steep competition. Mitsui Chemicals is now operating new propylene equipment at its Osaka facility, at an investment of US$36.2 million to raise the facility's production by 50% to 420,000 tpa and cut ethylene output by 9% to 410,000 tpa. Asahi Kasei Corp and Nippon Petrochemicals Co. Ltd. are also planning to put into operation propylene manufacturing equipment at Kawasaki and Okayama Prefecture respectively.
