Thai Olefins PCL new plant, with a nameplate capacity of 300,000 metric tpa of ethylene and 15,000 tpa of propylene, which started operating earlier this month, is currently running above 60% capacity. Thai Olefins is expected to gradually increase the operating rate of its new ethylene plant to 100% by January 2005. TOC plans to supply most of the ethylene output from its new plant to Thailand's National Petrochemical PCL, which may require ethylene for its new 250,000 tpa high density polyethylene plant. With this, it seems unlikely that Thai Olefins will have much to export in Q1-2005 and exports will also be very limited in Q2- 2005 as the cracker is scheduled for a two-week maintenance in March.
TOC's other ethylene plant, which underwent a maintenance shutdown in March, is operating at 100% of capacity. That plant mostly uses naphtha as its main feedstock, while the new plant mostly uses ethane. The older plant has a capacity to produce 385,000 tpa of ethylene and 190,000 tpa of propylene.
