Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), the national oil and gas company of Malaysia, has awarded INEOS Technologies (INEOS) the LL/HDPE portion of the PETRONAS’ Refinery & Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project, utilising the Innovene G gas phase fluidised bed process. The 350,000 tpa LL/HDPE plant will manufacture a full line of high value polyethylene resins, including HDPE, LLDPE and metallocene LLDPE. The products from this plant will serve the Malaysian and other Asian markets in high performance film, molding and packaging for industrial and consumer applications.
Dr. Peter Williams, CEO of INEOS Technologies stated, “We are pleased with this award from PETRONAS and look forward to supporting this key element of their RAPID mega-project in Malaysia.” PETRONAS’ RAPID project is by far the largest liquid-based green-field downstream undertaking in Malaysia. It will have a 300,000 barrels per day refinery to supply the petrochemical complex, apart from producing a host of refined petroleum products, including gasoline and diesel that meet the Euro 4 and Euro 5 fuel specifications. The petrochemical component of the project will allow PETRONAS to expand its product portfolio from commodity petrochemicals to premium differentiated and specialty chemicals, capitalising on the growing demand for these higher value products in the Asia Pacific region.
