The Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) has decided to hire an internationally known consultant for preparing a feasibility study for setting up a naphtha cracker facility in Karachi. This seems like the first step towards building a petrochemical complex in Pakistan. PIDC plans to invite tenders from consultants for preparing a feasibility study within a month.
After the successful conclusion of survey of lands around Port Qasim and Pakistan Steel Mills to identify the location for the proposed complex, the Prime Minister would be asked to chair a meeting of the PIDC board and take further decisions.
