Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) will be the principal sponsor of ArabPlast 2011, the Middle East's largest trade show for rubber, plastics and petrochemicals, which will be held in Dubai in January. ArabPlast is being held at a time when the petrochemicals industry in the GCC region is becoming a key driver of the economy and one of the bases of economic diversification in the Gulf countries.
Qapco's principal sponsorship of the event was announced at a press conference yesterday, which was attended among others by company general manager, Dr Mohamed Yousef al-Mulla and Satish Khanna, general manager of Al Fajer Information & Services Dubai, the event organiser. Qapco had co-sponsored Arabplast exhibition in the past and this year the company was honoured to be the principal sponsor. "Our sponsorship stems from the event's strategic importance, as it highlights the developments of the region's petrochemical industry," Mulla said.
About 40% of the world's petrochemical requirements are now being met by the GCC countries. Khanna said, "Al Fajer Information and Services and German exhibition organiser Messe Dusseldorf are in a joint partnership to organise the ArabPlast exhibition. In addition to Qapco, the show is sponsored by major GCC industrial companies, such as Borouge, Abu Dhabi Polymers Park, Petro Rabigh, NATPET, MEP UK among others."
ArabPlast 2011 will showcase latest technologies and track market trends of the Middle East plastics and rubber industry, which continues to be the world's largest exporter, offloading majority of its output to international markets. Companies from Taiwan, USA, Turkey, Egypt, Canada, UK, Germany, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Hong Kong, China, Switzerland, Spain, Norway, KSA, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, UAE, India and Iran are participating in the show.
