Qatofin Company Limited, a petrochemical joint venture between QAPCO(63%), Total Petrochemicals France (36%) and Qatar Petroleum (1%) to develop the polyethylene product range in Qatar, is expected to start operation in Q3 - 2009, the media reports said. The US$1.3 bln venture project will produce 450,000 mtpa of high quality Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) at South Qatar-based Mesaieed Industrial City and will market the same under brand name 'LOTRENE' worldwide. This project holds special significance as it is expected to make the Arab Gulf region one of the important regions as far as downstream products are concerned.
