Tata group chairman Mr. Ratan Tata has stepped down from the board of Haldia Petrochemicals Limited (HPL), despite HPL chairman Tarun Das' efforts to make him stay. This departure is unlike his previous, and seems permanent. However, the group will continue to keep the 3% stake it holds in HPL. The Tatas held a 14% stake in HPL until three years ago, when they decided to pull out of petrochemicals since it was a non-core business for the group.
