RIL to build new polypropylene plant by 2006

Attempting to increase the crude throughput, RIL is planning to invest US$5.7 billion (Rs2.5 billion) to make its Jamnagar plant the world's largest oil refinery by doubling the plant's capacity to 60 million tons. Besides this it is also planning to build a new 280,000 tpa polypropylene plant with an investment of Rs 2,500 crore. The plant shall be operational by March 2006 and is estimated to raise Reliance's polypropylene capacity to 1.43 million tpa. In the company's expansion plans, RIL has also included the scale up of the company's polyester production capacity by investing another Rs 3,000 crore and is considered to spend Rs 1,000 crore on Nocil and Dyechem.
