Declining margins, affected by deteriorating demand in the face of a global economic meltdown, has caused Saudi Basic Industries Corp.’s naphtha cracker at its Teesside site in Northeast England that began operations this month to run at reduced rates. After being idled on Feb. 2 for repairs, operations at the naphtha unit were started on April 6. Nameplate capacity at Teesside is of 865,000 tpa ethylene, 400,000 tpa of propylene and 100,000 tpa of butadiene.
