SABIC recently announced that its new Specialty Compounding plant in Genk (Belgium) will be starting up end of 2009 and will have a nameplate capacity of 140,000 tpa. This European capacity expansion will enable SABIC to support the growth of its automotive customers in Western and Eastern Europe. The product portfolio of SABIC's new plant will consist of its SABIC® PPcompound and SABIC® STAMAX - long glass fiber polypropylene (PP) composites. The Belgian facility will also include a state of the art Compounding Innovation Center, enabling product and processing innovations that will meet the critical challenges of tomorrow's automotive industry.
High quality SABIC® PPcompound materials are supplied to produce bumper fascias, instrument panels, door panels, interior trims and other automotive applications. outstanding combination of excellent strength, dimensional stability and high flow for thin-wall structural parts. On the other hand, its SABIC® STAMAX enables the design of applications that combine light weight with functional integration, such as front-end modules, instrument panel carriers, door modules, tailgates and seating systems. In addition to the Belgian plant, SABIC is investigating the expansion of its PP compounding facilities in amongst others the United States and China.
