Sasol's Germistone-based petrochem plant closed down due to explosion

09-Jan-09
Sasol, South Africa's integrated oil and gas company, discontinued operations at its Germiston-based plant in South Africa as road tankers in the loading bay caught fire leading to an explosion. The fire has been extinguished as per local media reports and the period of shut down is not known. The petrochemical plant-which houses production facilities for methanol, ethanol and butanol solvents-was under investigation to assess the damage caused; however, the supply will not be hampered.
