Shaw's ethylene technology selected by Eastman for Texan plant

The Shaw Group Inc. has been awarded a contract to provide its proprietary technology and engineering services for a new Ultra Selective Conversion® (USC) furnace for Eastman Chemical Company's ethylene plant in Longview, Texas. Shaw will also procure the equipment for the furnace. "Shaw's Energy & Chemicals Group's USC furnace technology contains a range of design options which will give Eastman flexible solutions for their operational needs," said James Glass, president of Shaw's Energy & Chemicals Group. "Shale gas developments, which are making available local feedstock at lower prices, are driving increased activity in this business across the U.S. Shaw is positioned to help owners with the expansion or revamp of existing facilities, as well as the design of grassroots facilities. First and quicker to market become major incentives for our clients." The undisclosed value of the contract was included in Shaw's Energy & Chemicals segment's backlog of unfilled orders in the second quarter of fiscal year 2012.
