To meet the rising demand for petrochemicals, China's fourth-largest integrated oil firm by capacity, state-owned Sinochem Corp. plans to build a refinery in the eastern province of Zhejiang Sinochem Corp. The company currently has one refinery in operation, with another one planned ahead of the Zhejiang refinery. The Zhejiang refinery, which will be the company's third, has a planned annual processing capacity of 10 million metric tons (200,822 bpd), and will mainly process heavy crude oil shipped from Sinochem's production in the Middle East and South America. Dalian West Pacific Petrochemical Co., Sinochem Corp.'s operating refinery is a joint venture with China National Petroleum Corp. and France's TOTAL S.A. and has an annual capacity of 10 million tons. The planned refinery, construction for which is to commence shortly in the eastern Fujian province, will have an annual capacity of up to 12 million tons, or 241,000 bpd.
