West Bengal’s chemical hub at Nayachar awaits approval from the Environment Ministry. The project has received approval from the Centre but the size of the hub will depend upon the consent of the Environment body. Issues like land acquisition, change of ownership and taking physical possession of land were discussed at a recent meeting. The PCPIR will have an anchor investor which will set up the mother plant as well as ancillary industries.
As of now, there is no need to acquire land at Nayachar in Purba Madinipur where the State proposed to set up a PCPIR. 1 sq.km of land with the Centre help was set up for providing the infrastructure. The State government would set up power, drainage and other related infrastructure.
