Taiwan's Chinese Petroleum Corp. (CPC), along with a group of Taiwan companies plan to build the world's biggest petrochemical plant in the United Arab Emirates at an investment outlay US$6 billion. The plant, to be constructed in Abu Dhabi, will include a naphtha cracker with an annual capacity of 1.3 million tpa of ethylene. Other Taiwan companies that could invest in the project include USI Corp., Taiwan Polypropylene Co., Ltd., Grand Pacific Petrochemical Corp., Taita Chemical Co. Ltd. and Ho Tung Chemical Corp.
The deal also encompasses the UAE taking a 20% stake in a CPC-led petrochemical plant planned in South Taiwan with :
A 300,000 bpd refinery
A 1.2 million ton naphtha cracker
A 400,000 to 500,000 ton butadiene plant
A 900,000 ton propylene plant
A 900,000 ton polyethylene plant
