Thailand’s PTTCG mulls new toluene diisocyanate (TDI) plant in SE Asia

06-Mar-12
Thailand’s largest petrochemical and refinery firm, PTT Global Chemical (PTTCG) may opt to build new toluene diisocyanate (TDI) plant in SE Asia. TDI is a core component for making polyurethane. PTTGC, is considering several Southeast Asian countries as the location for its planned TDI plant, in addition to Thailand. These options are under consideration as building the facility in Thailand could require a lengthy legal process, as per The Nation. The Thai Constitution's Article 67 (2) requires owners of investment projects categorised as harmful to the environment to conduct an environmental health impact assessment (EHIA). A PTTGC subsidiary, TOC Glycol, has been unable to expand the capacity of its ethylene glycol plant due to the requirements of the law, despite having completed the EHIA.
