Ticona Engineering Polymers expanded its family of high-impact modified Hostaform® acetal copolymer (POM) at recently concluded ChinaPlas 2009 with the introduction of a next generation that offers new levels of performance previously unavailable in impact modified POM and nylons. According to the company, the changes to the POM backbone modifications have enabled to develop the new high-impact Hostaform POM S 9364 which outperforms all POMs currently available. This grade is said to offer up to 75% better impact performance, and up to 300% better weld line strength. Other products which have been added to the high-impact modified Hostaform® POM family include Hostaform POM S 9362 and S 9363 for high productivity. These grades cut cooling time by 40% for faster cycle times while leaving less mold deposit for reduced tool downtime. Other features include higher heat deflection temperature (HDT), higher modulus and up to 200% weld line strength.
In addition, Ticona scientists are continuously working to modify POM backbone to develop new super high-impact Hostaform POM expected to be commercially available in the last quarter 2009. This yet-to-be available super high impact POM is designed to double the impact performance when compared with the best available POM impact modified grades. Also, it is expected to provide more than 400% weld line strength when compared with the best available POM impact modified grades. The company wants the new super high-impact Hostaform POM to compete against impact modified PA nylon.
