In the face of steep and continuing increases in polymer prices, Ticona has developed a lower-cost grade of cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) for food product packaging. The new cost-effective grade - Topas 8007F-100 can be used as a blending component in polyethylene-based packaging films.
The copolymer, used as a minor component at a concentration of 10 to 20%, increases the stiffness of the polyethylene and allowing it to be thermoformed to create flexible food packaging, blister packs, medical overwraps, pouches, forming webs and shrink films. The copolymer also adds controlled tear, improved sealing and antiblock performance characteristics to the polyethylene. Topas 8007F-100 complies with US and EU food contact regulations.
