Japan's Toray Industries plans to increase production at its optical-use polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film plant in China by 15,000 tpa to 21,600 tpa by September 2012, at an investment outlay of Yen 5.5 billion (US$66 mln), as per Platts. The plant, located in Jiangsu province, is to start-up with an initial production capacity of 6,600 tpa this July. Capacity will be ramped on expectation that demand from China will grow by 30% pa in the next few years. Optical-use PET film is used in flat panel displays.
