Total Petrochemicals has selected Port Arthur as the site for an estimated US$1.6 bln
an ethane cracker, likely to start-up as early as 2019. Total, which had filed for state environmental permits and negotiated for a property tax abatement with county officials, previously said Port Arthur was one proposed location for the project.
Their confirmation comes less than a month after Jefferson County Commissioners approved a 10-year, 100% tax abatement on improvements to the property as long as the project investment tops US$500 mln.
The estimated investment total has not been disclosed and could become clear after the company selects an engineering company in the next couple of months.
