Turkish government permits SOCAR to build new refinery at Petkim petrochemical complex

The Turkish government has given requisite permission to Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR to build a new refinery at the Petkim petrochemical complex in Aliaga, Western Turkey. A feasibility study is currently in progress, and construction is expected to commence in 2010 of the refinery planned to have capacity oof 10-15 mln tpa. The Petkim complex has the basic infrastructure required for the construction and operation of a refinery. A consortium of SOCAR, Turkey's Turcas and Saudi Arabia's Injaz owns a 51% controlling stake in Turkey's major petrochemicals company Petkim since privatization in late 2007.
