While UAE's Borouge is winding down its pre-marketing campaign for homopolymer grade polypropylene with the successful startup of its new mega-petrochemicals complex in October, pre-marketing sales for its block copolymer grades will still continue until Q2-2011 at least, as per Platts. Pre-marketing sales of block copolymer and high impact copolymer is expected to continue until the company's 800,000 tpa polypropylene unit at the Borouge 2 complex begins production. Currently, plant only produces homopolymer and injection grade PP but aims to include those copolymer grades in its portfolio in 2011.
Borouge began its PP pre-marketing campaign in Q2-2009, shipping several variations of PP homopolymer and injection grades, including specialty grades manufactured at its production sites in Europe, to Asia, in a bid to build relationships with Asian customers ahead of its startup. The company's PP pre-marketing products were often sold at a discount to market prices in Asia.
