Uponor, a leading supplier of plumbing and heating systems in Europe and North America, will provide its underfloor radiant cooling technology for controlling indoor climatic conditions at one of Europe's largest shopping centres (423,000 sq. m.), the Dolce Vita Tejo in Portugal. The roof of the
Shopping centre's building will be constructed of material that filters the sun's ultraviolet light, but retains the sun's brightness, enabling the reduction of electricity-consuming illumination. The shopping centre is expected to see completion by May 2009.
Uponor's underfloor radiant cooling will compensate the warming effects of solar light which would normally be difficult to manage with a traditional air-conditioning system. Uponor's system will radiate cooling via the floor maintaining floor temperature at approximately 19-20 degrees celsius at all times up to a height of 2.5 meters. Uponor's underfloor cooling system will help achieve considerable savings in energy consumption. Uponor has also used the same technology at international airport in Bangkok.
