New Delhi: Paving the way for their elimination, the government is lik-ely to include in "single use plastic", items such as use and throw cutlery Sources said the government is also considering to specify the revised norm for manufacturing and sale of plastic and polythene packaging items, which should have thickness of at least 60 microns.
Sources said the environment and forest ministry (MoEFCC) in-formed PM Narendra Modi that the inter-ministerial consultation pro-cess for this has been completed and the draft will be out soon. PM had re-viewed the progress on elimination of single use plastic at the PRAGATI meeting last week.
India had, on the occasion of World Environment Day in 2018, vo-luntarily pledged to eliminate sing-le-use plastics by 2022 -- coinciding with 75 years of independence. PM Modi had said this could be achieved through people's participation through awareness and behavioural change.
