Wellman Inc., South Carolina-based manufacturer of polyester staple fiber (PSF), engineering resins and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packaging resins have reportedly announced to shut doors at its PSF and PET resin manufacturing operations at its Darlington-based plant and engineering resins operations at its Johnsonville-based plant. However, the company will further production of PET packaging resins at its Pearl River-based facility in Missouri. Wellman's move is consistent with its decision to consolidate its PET packaging resins business while exiting the PSF and engineering resins business to erupt from bankruptcy by 2008 end. Wellman markets PET packaging resins under the name 'PermaClear', PSF resins under Fortrel® brand and engineering resins under Wellamid® brand.
