China’s largest refiner by capacity -China Petroleum and Chemical Corp. (Sinopec), has put back on track its 800,000 tpa ethylene project in central China's Wuhan city. The progress of the project has seen a delayed for approximately one year from its initial schedule. But with the work back on track, construction should be completed by the end of 2012, and the plant is expected to come onstream by H1-2013. Capacities will include 300,000 tons of high-density polyethylene, 300,000 tons of linear low-density polyethylene and 400,000 tons of polypropylene.
65% stake is held by Sinopec and the balance 35% is held by SK Energy Co.- South Korea's largest refiner by capacity. The pant is part of the government's plan to build major ethylene production capacity in Central and West China in a bid to help the central region meet petrochemical demand.
