Rexam Prescription Products, a global player in rigid plastic packaging is reportedly first packaging company to develop and market a liquid prescription oval made with 100% post-consumer recycled PET resin. The packaging, available in several sizes, can be repeatedly recycled thereby reducing resource consumption and environmental impact.
Rexam's new recycled oval meets the same government standards as its current virgin PET line, including United States Pharmacopeia (USP) requirements for light transmission and moisture permeation, the Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CSPC) child-resistant and senior-friendly protocol requirements and FDA resin standards. The new recycled ovals are expected to have a distinct appeal, allowing pharmacies to market themselves as a green product.
