In a bid to adapt itself to the changes in the global polyamides marketplace, engineering polymers group-Rhodia is planning to optimize the research, development and production resources of its Polyamide businesses in Europe. The polyamide market is seeing expansion in East European, Latin American and Asian regions while slowing down in West Europe. To structure itself with these changes, Rhodia is considering to shut down of its Ceriano facility in Italy by mid-2009. The group will also seek to transfer all of its European Research, Development and Applications teams to a single site in Lyon, to enhance their efficiency. Further, Rhodia will up the polyamide capacity at its Lyon Belle-Etoile facility in France and the Gorzow facility in Poland. The above changes are a part of a broader program to curtail costs of its Polyamides business by about EUR40 mln per annum by 2010 fortifying its leadership of the various segments of the polyamide market.
