Formosa Plastics plans fifth phase expansion with investment of 100 bln

The Formosa Plastics group plans to invest another 100 bln twd in a fifth-phase expansion of its naphtha cracker complex at Mailiao, Yulin county in central Taiwan, scheduled for completion in 2010. In particular, Formosa Petrochemical plans to add a fourth oil refinery at Mailiao and push up its daily capacity to 670,000 barrels, a level comparable to that of Chinese Petroleum Corp. With this, combined group sales is estimated to increase to 2 trln twd. Key members of the group include Formosa Plastics Corp, Nan Ya Plastics Corp, Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp and Formosa Petrochemical Corp.
