China to become world's largest consumer of composites by 2013

China is attaining position of global leader in various composite products such as PCBs, automotive parts, fiberglass ladders, pipes, tanks, construction and aerospace parts. China's composites market will surpass the US composites volume by 2013, when China will become the largest consumer of composite materials. China is expected to surpass the United States to become the world's largest exporter in total goods and services by 2007. Dutch Akzo Nobel will invest about US$150 million in China during this decade to produce more coatings for local markets. Ticona Polymers announced plans in 2006 for two new plastics plants in China, one for Celstran long fiber reinforced thermoplastics (LFRT) and one for ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. Royal DSM NV is doubling the size of its engineering plastics compounding operation near Shanghai to take advantage of growth in the electronics, automotive and consumer products markets. Saint Gobain, PPG, and others are actively pursuing business expansions in China. LM, Vestas and others are building plants for making rotor blades for the wind energy market
