Marun Petrochemical, subsidiary of state-owned National Petrochemical Co. has put down the lid on its cracker in Bandar Imman including the high density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP) and monoethylene glycol (MEG) units. The disruption in gas supply led to the close down of 1.1 mln tpa cracker while the shortage of ethylene and propylene feedstock forced the shut down of 300000 tpa HDPE and PP lines. However, a technical problem led to the closure of 400000 tpa monoethylene glycol (MEG) line.
According to industry sources, the cracker, HDPE and PP lines are expected to resume operation by 4th August while the MEG line is likely to start by 1st of September.
