China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec) plans to expand the capacity of its second-biggest oil-processing plant by 33% to meet rising fuel demand. Capacity will be hiked at the Maoming plant to 18 mln tons (360,000 bpd) from 13.5 mln tons. Sinopec will build a 10 mln tpa crude oil distillation unit at the plant and shut two existing units with annual capacities of 2.5 mln tons and 3 mln tons. It will add a 2.4 mln tpa hydrocracker and a 2.2 mln tpa catalytic cracker. The total expansion, at a cost of more than 4 billion yuan ($586 million), will commence next year and be completed in 2012.
