A new recovered plastic container processing facility has been opened in Chicago by America Alliance LLC. This facility will use optical sorting technology to recycle 100 million pounds of containers annually. The company had previously opened another such facility in Raleigh in 2003.
This new plant will sort containers by resin and color and identify PP, HDPE, PET and PVC bottles, processing 15,000 to 17,000 pounds of containers per hour.
Through its investment in the two plants, the company is planning to fulfill the demand for recovered plastic from the bottle, plastic lumber, drainage pipe, polyester fiber, polyester carpet and lawn edging industries. Together, the Chicago and Raleigh plants are speculated to handle recovered plastic containers from about 60% of USA.
