Arabplast 2005 : Leading plastics trade show to feature top global players. China, Spain and Malaysia join as first-time participants ArabPlast 2005 - the Middle East’s premier trade show for rubber, plastics and plastic packaging - which will see the participation of leading global petrochemical giants, today announced that the show has evoked tremendous response internationally resulting in 100% booking of the exhibition space. The show, slated for March 20-23, 2005, will span three exhibition halls (2, 3, 4, 5A) of Dubai International Exhibition Centre (DIEC). Commenting on the significance of the big response to the seventh edition of the fair, Mr. Satish Khanna, General Manager, Al Fajer Information and Services, organisers of the show, said: “This is a clear indication that the Middle East’s plastic industry, a key component of regional economies, is poised for phenomenal growth. Besides the leading players, ArabPlast 2005 will also showcase products and technologies of new entrants who wish to penetrate regional markets.” Mr. Khanna said the plastic industry is an important part of the region’s manufacturing sector, easily attracting a large chunk of its total investments. Fed by huge petrochemical capacities that have emerged in the region over the past two decades, the downstream plastic industry is growing rapidly, he added. “The boom in construction and population, coupled with the region’s vibrant commercial and industrial sectors will continue to propel the demand for plastics and allied industries,” Mr. Khanna said. The consumer durables, engineering, construction and pharmaceutical industries were increasingly finding new uses for plastics, which has also spurred consumption of plastics, he pointed out. Mr. Khanna noted that the vast consumer market in the Middle East was throwing up new opportunities for entrepreneurs who are interested in investing in the plastic packaging industry in the region. Al Fajer had announced a partnership with Germany’s leading exhibition organizer Messe Dusseldorf GmbH earlier for ArabPlast 2005. The partnership has raised the profile of ArabPlast 2005 in the global markets, particularly Europe & North America. The last edition of ArabPlast in 2003 had closed with deals worth US$271 million. Over 228 companies from 18 countries participated in the fair in 2003, which had a trade visitor turnout of 6,528 from across the region, particularly from AGCC countries. The 2005 edition will build on the success achieved in the 2003 show, Mr Khanna said. ArabPlast 2005 will also feature an international conference for the first time. The International Conference will explore the Arab world’s role on the global plastics industry and also provide delegates with the updated market information on the opportunities and challenges of doing business in this part of the world. The exhibition will see the participation of leading manufacturers of raw materials including Exxon Mobil, Qatar Petrochemicals, Astra Polymers, Clariant, Borougue, EnerPlastics, Reliance Petrochemicals and Iran Petrochemicals.
