Saudi Aramco’s planned JV with Dow Chemical will have an annual production capacity of 8 million tons of petrochemical products from its 35 units. The project is in the engineering and design phase and partners are expected to make an investment decision in 2010. If the project goes ahead it would be the largest single foreign investment in the Saudi energy sector with an estimated cost of over US$20 bln. It is planned to produce ethylene, propylene and aromatic and chlorine derivatives at the plant, anticipated to start up in 2015.
