Asahi Kasei and PTT plan petrochem venture

Asahi Kasei Corp of Japan and leading Thai petroleum firm PTT Plc have announced plans to build and operated a petrochemical plant as a joint venture in Rayong province by 2009, with an annual output capacity of 70,000 tons of acrylic resin and 200,000 tons of acrylic resin raw materials. The two companies will equally invest 40 billion to 50 billion yen (13.3 billion to 13.8 billion baht) to produce acrylic and acrylic resin materials. The plant will use the Asahi Kasei technology of using natural gas to supplied by PTT, which is less expensive than petroleum, in producing acrylic materials.
