BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany) has declared force majeure for polyamide 66 compounds, effective June 17, because of production problems at its Hexamethylenediamine (HMD) plant in Seal Sands, UK, as per Plastics Today. In making the announcement, BASF said that it is in no position to predict how long the situation will last.
This latest declaration of force majeure from a major chemicals company comes at a time when plastics-related associations are bemoaning an "epidemic" of such cases that pose an "existential threat" for European manufacturers, according to the European Plastics Converters Association.
