Bayer MaterialScience is to partner German compounder PTS Plastic Technologie to develop thermoplastic elastomers. Currently, Bayer’s strength lies in thermoplastic polyurethanes (under the brand name Desmopan). PTS’s strength is in styrene block copolymers (Thermoflex) and in TPVs (under the brand Uniprene). PTS has already been producing SBC compounds with small proportions of Desmopan, for applications in engine compartments This alliance, based on their respective strengths, will lead to the development of innovative products with newer applications. Products from the line up will be marketed under the Desmoflex name.
